Founded in Riga in 2011, NYX Trio brings together three distinguished Latvian musicians - Anete Toča, flute; Tatjana Ostrovska, violin; and Ieva Sarja, piano. For almost fifteen years, the ensemble has developed a distinctive artistic voice around the unusual and richly coloured combination of flute, violin and piano, performing in Latvia and internationally while creating a repertoire that moves between the European chamber music tradition and the music of contemporary Latvia.

At the heart of NYX Trio's work is curiosity - the discovery of rarely performed music, the revival of overlooked Latvian scores, and close collaboration with living composers. From the very beginning, new music has been part of the ensemble's identity. Its first chapter opened with Andris Vecumnieks' NYX Variations, created for the trio, and over the years numerous Latvian composers have written or arranged works with NYX Trio in mind.

That dialogue with composers culminated in the trio's debut recording, 10 Dedications, released by Prima Classic - a collection devoted entirely to contemporary Latvian music and shaped by more than a decade of musical encounters, discoveries and friendships. The album reflects one of NYX Trio's central ambitions: not only to perform Latvian music, but to give it a continuing life on international stages, in recordings and among future generations of musicians.

NYX Trio's performances frequently reach beyond the boundaries of a conventional chamber concert. The ensemble has created projects with visual artists, poets, actors and filmmakers, bringing music into dialogue with ebru art, poetry, literature and moving image. This openness to collaboration transforms each programme into a meeting of ideas, disciplines and perspectives while keeping chamber music at its centre.

Named after Nyx, the ancient Greek goddess of night, the trio embraces the image of night as a space for imagination, discovery and creation. It is an apt symbol for an ensemble whose work continues to uncover new colours in familiar music - and to bring new music into the light.
